Property for sale in Old Town Palma

The Old Quarter lies in Central Palma, which stretches from the harbour to Placa d’Espanya. Situated behind the magnificent Cathedral, the Old City is an evocative blend of wide, leafy boulevards and cobbled laneways, Gothic churches and baroque palaces, stylish bars and elegant boutiques. Night-time is particularly special here, when the lights dramatize the Cathedral and gently illuminate the historic streets. Property for sale in old town Palma is very popular and is still a large demand by european buyers to adquire a property in this part of the city centre.

Property near La Seu, Palma Old Town

The area directly around Palma’s magnificent La Seu Cathedral is one of the most prestigious addresses in the whole of Mallorca. With very little traffic to disturb the streets, the shady, narrow streets are calm and peaceful. This atmospheric area is perfectly preserved and full of history. Unassuming doorways conceal delightful courtyards leading to magnificent Mallorcan palaces, some superbly restored. Unsurprisingly, the Cathedral area was once home to Mallorca’s aristocracy, and remains home to members of modern high society.

Sa Calatrava Property

The medieval neighbourhood of Sa Calatrava, in Palma’s upper Old Town, has a perfect location close to the city centre, the marina, Parque del Mar and many historic sites. For those seeking a contemporary property with preserved character, there are a variety of tastefully modernised old stone houses and apartments holding great appeal.

Santa Catalina Property

Toward the sea-front, Santa Catalina is the area to the west of Avenue Argentina. Once a fishermen’s neighbourhood, recent years have seen active refurbishment and it is now a vibrant, trendy place offering some delightful apartments for sale. Renovated penthouses and apartments have magnificent views over the city and the bay. There are also many lovely townhouses for those looking for a haven close to the buzz of the city. Property in this gentrified, picturesque area sells fast.

Paseo Maritimo Property

Located west, Paseo Maritimo is a large, six lane avenue that runs along Palma’s sea-front. The palm-lined coastal drive affords emblematic views of the best of the city and sea. Indeed, the Paseo is considered to be like a balcony over the Mediterranean.

Many of Palma’s most exclusive hotels are located here, placed to make the most of vistas over the city, cathedral, castle and bay. Likewise, properties along Paseo Maritimo have been built with ravishing terraces looking out over the fabulous setting, just minutes away from Palma’s boutiques and historical treasures. The area offers the pleasure of the Mediterranean lifestyle with its Marina, fine restaurants and fun (yet not tacky!) nightclubs.

The small harbour of Can Barbara situated at the end of Paseo Maritimo boasts sunny, luxurious apartments with splendid views of the marina.

La Lonja Property Sales

Lively, historic area of La Lonja is situated in the heart of the city, leading from the Passeig des Born towards the seafront. Famed for its narrow streets, the area takes its name from the beautiful Gothic La Lonja building that was once housed the Maritime Stock Exchange. For culture, shopping and dining, this area is hard to beat. The Jaume III shopping street and the Born with its many cafes are located here, and it is also home to the famous cocktail bar, Abaco. The handsome architecture of La Lonja extends to the variety of property for sale which includes traditional merchant’s houses, apartments and penthouses. Grand palaces and mansions, some more than 400 years old, are evidence of La Lonja’s affluent past and present.

Sa Gerreria Property

Located in the east next to Sa Calatrava and the Avenidas thoroughfare, Sa Gerreria is enjoying a renaissance. Once a run-down barrio, a multi-million Euro investment has smartened-up Sa Gerreria and there is great real-estate investment potential here.

Street names here often serve as a reminder of the area’s merchant past, alluding to silverwork, basket making and suchlike. These days the area is alive with bars, earning it the nickname of New York’s SoHo. It still remains less conspicuous than the more famous areas of Palma, reflected in lower property prices.

Es Molinar and Portixol

Former fishing villages, property in Es Molinar and Portixol has become increasingly sought after due to their relaxing harbour side location, within easy reach of the city centre.

The two small bays lie to the east at the end of Playa de Palma, by the promenade which heads to El Arenal in one direction and Palma in the other.

At weekend, the harbours thrive with a young, international crowd who come to enjoy the sophisticated bars and restaurants, while the new promenade is a hotspot for cyclists, skaters and those preferring a leisurely stroll.

The former fishermen’s cottages lining the sea front are highly desirable, as are the modern townhouses and luxury apartments chosen by those who prefer a laidback seaside village vibe close to the city.

Son Vida Properties

One of the most exclusive addresses in Mallorca, the name Son Vida is synonymous with luxury property. It is situated approximately 15 minutes north of the city around a famed golf course, and was designed to provide an idyllic setting for the ambitious, expansive mansions nestled in its five million square metres of grounds. The scale and scope of property in Son Vida offers boundless opportunity for buyers. Whether your taste is for innovative contemporary design or traditional and deluxe, Son Vida delivers.

Establiments

If you prefer to enjoy picturesque Palma in an ambient, rural setting, the village of Establiments offers spectacular views of the city and bay while being just 10 minutes’ drive away. There are a selection of country houses on large plots affording seclusion, luxury and panoramic vistas with the perfect transport connection meaning you can access the centre of Palma with ease.

Genova – Palma de Mallorca Outskirts

This attractive residential suburb, lying 5km west of the city, is considered a district of greater Palma. Construction in the centre of Genova village hasn’t always been sympathetic, but there are some fine examples of property for sale on the outskirts, often with outstanding views of the Bay of Palma.

Genova is famous for its restaurants, with more than 15 to choose from. Many foreigners live here, enjoying country style living with easy city access.
